Thanks to everyone who came to this month’s Loudhailer Acoustic! Here’s the gang of players. It was a lovely night with an intimate feel and brilliant to see percussionist Zach and Angie in the audience.
I always write a few words to accompany Rich’s photos – not as a critique, just to express what we love about the music and performances. We especially enjoyed every set this time. It was great to welcome – for the first time to Loudhailer Acoustic – Alex Wedlock, whose terrific songs and stage presence were a joy. Dexter played a smashing piano version of the theme to one of his favourite animes, Howl’s Moving Castle. We were entranced by every word of Jim’s standing up set, and everyone was stomping along to Brian’s Drop Down Mama blues. Can’t wait for Gifford’s fine new album to be released, the title track kicked off his set in style and finished with a great Americana duet with Joan. Graham’s minimal frills and props set ended with a surprise – 21st Century Schizoid man complete with fantastic piano solo and Karl played a too new to have a title song and two favourites. Roy was indeed the odd and only poet – with a flock of birds to boot, and Jeff debuted three world premieres, including a mean and moody murder ballad, penned on the way to Auntie Dorothy’s 80’s birthday party. Nick Cave, eat your heart out.

We’re having a summer break this year while we record our Loudhailer Electric Company album in Fairview and take the show on the road. Listen up for our BBC Introducing radio session on Saturday June 11th and look out for our psychedelic electric sets at Hull Folk Festival in Zebedee’s Yard – where we are running the stage – on the weekend of July 16th and 17th, Humber Street Sesh on Saturday August 6th, Hornsea Bike Event on Sunday August 21st, John Peel Day in Filey on Saturday November 19th, and a special date for your diary, Saturday November 12th at Kardomah94, where we will be launching our Loudhailer Electric Company album.
Another one for the future we’re really excited about – a Loudhailer Special – one of our favourite singer songwriter storytellers Andy White at Kardomah94 on Friday December 2nd. Andy’s first album Rave On is up there in our top ten, and his new stuff is even better!
S0, there will be one more evening before we have a summer break, Thursday July 7th, be great to see you there. Thanks to Paul at The Back Room, a lovely music venue, see you next time!
Next Loudhailer Acoustic – Thurs July 7th 2016 – then we are having a summer holiday so there will be no Loudhailer Acoustic nights in August or September.
