Loudhailer Acoustic October 2017

Thanks to everyone who came to play at Loudhailer Acoustic last night, a smashing night in The Back Room in Cottingham. A special thank you to everyone who came just to listen to the music, making for a lovely audience and vibe.

Rich was over in Leeds for the first half of the evening, so I opened the show with a couple of solo songs before introducing the evening’s guests. There were super sets from everyone –  Gifford Rolfe and Joan Foye’s ace Americana was followed by Roy Kibbler’s poetic ‘Jackanory’ story about how things seemed back then. Northwood Drift – Dez Allenby, Cathy Allenby and Phil Friend, played a fine set, their Saltersgate Inn song was a real treat. What a lovely selection of instruments beautifully played, cittern, bouzouki, shruti box, whistle and vocal harmonies. Catherine Scott’s  animated performance poetry never fails to light up the room, a spot-on mix of wicked wit and genuine observations of people-watching. Brian Williams closed the first half with a blues harp set that ventured into the worlds of rockabilly and jazz, and no one should have to follow George Melly’s nuts, so we had a break for a beer and a chat. Ian Martinson opened the second half with two original songs and then master of groove Paul Sutton played us out with some fabulously soulful guitar and vocals. Thanks again to everyone who came along, see you next time. Only two more Loudhailer Acoustics before Christmas, Thursday 2nd November, then Thursday 7th December, all welcome.

In the meantime, we’ve got some £5 guest list tickets for our Loudhailer Electric Company show on Sunday night 8th October, opening up for the mighty Moodists Dave Graney & Claire Moore, over from Australia performing with Malcolm Ross (Orange Juice) and Georgio ‘The Dove’ Valentino. Promises to be a great night. If you’d like a guest list ticket please arrive before 8pm at the venue (doors 7.30pm) O’Riley’s, 83 Beverley Road, Hull.
