Last time we went to church it was to see the maestro of the viola da gamba – Jordi Savall – in Salisbury. Last night we were at church again to see Poeticall Musicke, and these guys were superb.
York’s All Saints Church was the perfect venue for Poeticall Musicke’s programme of Royal French Music from the court of Louis XIV. The engaging and mesmerising early music band played pieces by Couperin, Lully, Rebel and Marias absolutely beautifully. We had a couple of glasses of wine and the band created a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Lovely night all round. Poeticall Musicke have a programme of concerts at All Saints, and we’re looking forward to the next time we can make it, for sure.
