Poeticall Musicke

During a roller coaster of a day, Rich, Dexter and I had a wonderfully calming oasis couple of hours in York last night with a glass of wine and gorgeous music at Poeticall Musicke’s concert of Bach sonatas and arias. We have previously seen them featuring theorbo, harp, cello and violin soloists. This time, comprising a trio of spinet, viola da gamba and soprano, as always they created a fabulous vivid and atmospheric performance in the most beautiful venue, York’s All Saints Church.

Poeticall Musicke – Joseph and Kate

Although Poeticall Musicke are an early music band they combine baroque with contemporary media and have a splendid collection of free download albums on their independent label website Veterum Musica

Named after Tobias Hume’s 1607 collection of viol music and songs, last night Poeticall Musicke were: Joseph Chesshyre – spinet, Rosemary Galton – soprano, Kate Conway – viola da gamba.

What a lovely evening, we look forward to the next time.
