I pulled Guy Peellaert’s Rock Dreams out of the bookcase for the first time in 20 odd years and a bunch of negatives fell out onto the table. Squinting at them up at the window light Rich said, “These look good Lou. It’s a band – I can see a confederate flag – must be Lynyrd Skynyrd.”
It turned out to be a set of negatives taken by my old buddy Steve Abbott at gigs at Portsmouth Guildhall, before he came to Hull in 1976, so before he was 17. Rich had them developed and there are some ace photos. I remembered the reason Steve gave (lent!) them to me back then was because we were both fans of Be-Bop Deluxe and we were all listening to Sunburst Finish one time. Sure enough there are some great photos of Bill Nelson from their Portsmouth gig on February 24th 1976 amongst them, and a couple of the support band Richard Strange’s Doctors of Madness. We’re really looking forward to the Loudhailer Electric Company track we recorded at Fairview Studio last week being on the Fairview 50th anniversary album together with a new track from Bill. Have a look through the gallery. All photos © Steve Abbott
Oh yes, I seem to remember that the (excellent) Guy Peellaert book belongs to my Red Guitars buddy JR. If there is anything else I haven’t given back..sorry!
We are thrilled that our band Loudhailer Electric Company is part of Fairview Studio’s 50th anniversary album, together with Bill Nelson. Like Bill we recorded an exclusive track for the album. Released in 2017 it’s a compilation of brand new exclusive tracks and video interviews recorded by John Spence to celebrate 50 years of amazing music from Fairview Studio in Willerby. – Find out more here.

Whoa! Cool!
I saw these two bands at the Music Hall, Boston, MA in late 75. They had written the tunes for Sunburst Finish, because they played a lot of them.
I would like to add that Be Bop Deluxe was the back-up band and that Lynyrd Skynyrd was the main act.
Thanks for posting these.
Excellent, thanks!
