Through the hustle and bustle of a York party night out on Saturday into the sanctuary of St Helen’s church in Stonegate, Poeticall Musicke’s concert of elegant viola da gamba music took us to another time and place. Alex McCartney: theorbo and Jon Rees: viol played a beautiful set of pieces from the reign of the sun king, Louis XIV. The programme included suites by Robert de Visée and Marin Marais, beautiful and enchanting, a real treat.
