We are delighted to announce that Jonas Lapinas’ outstanding new EP Photographic Room Dust is released on the DHM record label on Saturday June 27th 2020 catalogue number DHM025 and will be available from all the usual digital outlets from the release date.
26 year old Leeds-based Lithuanian songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Jonas Lapinas has been a front-man of underground experimental rock bands for over a decade. In recent years he was most known for Huddersfield-based Terra Fin band with Corey Clough-Howard as well as being a collaborator on an array of indie-pop, indie-folk, post-rock and EDM projects across Northern England. His concerts vary in form and setting, from a collaboration with local contemporary ballet dancer, solo electro-pop shows, experimental music within public lectures, European tours… to contrasting high-energy grunge gigs in sticky-floor venues. Jonas mostly favours non-traditional gig environments, such as libraries, industrial buildings, hidden art spaces or even in elevators. As well as being active in session recording environments, he has written music for advertisements, art exhibitions and has been an active and prominent figure of the UK Northern music scene as well as in his home city of Vilnius.
Jonas’ latest EP – Photographic Room Dust has been written and produced throughout the 2020 Coronavirus lockdown in his bedroom in West Leeds.
‘Flamboyant images became so thrilling that all our minds have bought what frog presenter said.’
The EP’s inspiration sparked from observing overwhelming transitions in global technology intertwined with this decade’s shocking acts of media and political campaigns. These ideas provoked an amplified silence within the artist, as he reflected his thoughts and applied them to his new creative pursuit: Photographic Room Dust. This reflection unravels within the surreal lyrical content, wrapped in the well-contained energy of Jonas’ rhythmic voice-lines. His vocals echo amongst atmospheric guitars played with bows, unique and detuned synthesiser sounds and hypnotic beats complimented by samples of computer keyboards. The record creates a sense of celestial space where one can contemplate the rapid change of our times.
