Celtarabia at Beulah

Oh my, Celtarabia at the Beulah Gathering at Lime Tree Farm – we had such a terrific time.

Celtarabia at Beulah 15After chilling by the stones for the afternoon we played an hour and a half set of full on high energy dance tunes and songs at the end of the evening. A glorious sunny weekend and cosmic theme brought good vibes in abundance. There were amazing costumes and dancing both on and off the stage. What a splendid afternoon and storming evening!

Celtarabia at Hull Folk Festival 2016

Another storming Celtarabia gig – this time headlining Saturday night at the Hull Folk and Maritime Festival. Such a terrific end to a glorious day at Hull Marina with an awesome audience who danced the high energy dance all the way through the set, from the first turn of the Gurdy to the last kick of the drum. It’s been a brilliant weekend – big smiles all round – as Rich’s photographs show.

Celtarabia had a fantastic headline slot at the wonderful Cornucopia Festival this weekend. What a gig!  People and Trolls danced like mad things to the medieval, arabo-andalusian and eastern european tunes. Fantastic sound and lights – thank you to the Cornucopia team. It was so much fun. Celtarabia rocked the Kardomah!

Celtarabia at Kardomah94 1There was a Celtarabia multimedia wild fusion dance trance party down at Hull’s Kardomah94 on Friday night. I absolutely love playing my bass with such a great bunch of friends and superb musicians. Led by hurdy gurdy maestro Quentin Budworth, and the dulcimer dudess, Amanda Lowe, we had a super high energy home town party gig to a packed house and a backdrop of the Armenian classic surreal film, The Colour of Pomegranates and Georges Méliès’ seminal science fiction movie, Le Voyage Dans la Lun.

Celtarabia’s wild fusion of Arabic, Andalucian, Celtic, Medieval music and contemporary beats is just fantastic feel good music. We always have a ball on stage, great fun! The set creeps in with the atmospheric sounds of Quentin’s gurdy drone and Mandi’s sparkling dulcimer and from the moment Alan and I pile in with some huge dub grooves the dancing starts. It was brilliant when Steve, our didge master stepped up on stage, and then after a set of beautiful dulcimer melodies, violinist Chris joined us for some gurdy led tunes and stomping tribal beats to take it through to the end of the night.

A big shout out to everyone who came and danced the night away. We loved the fabulous atmosphere and groovy dancing right from the first beat.

Thanks to Matt Lund and Mikey Scott for getting us a great sound both on and off the stage, it was ace to look out and see them boogying away at the mixing desk. Thanks to our opening performer, and impromptu guest violinist, Christopher Heron and his remarkable violin and guitar loop station tunes.

Loudhailer Electric Co.

Well, it’s been a mega musical weekend! Rich and I kicked off by playing a cool acoustic set as part of a really ace line up at reGOCnition festival on Friday night, and closed the weekend with a storming Loudhailer Electric Co. outing on the main stage at Hull Folk Festival this afternoon. Yesterday was a blast with Celtarabia. We stormed the main stage in the afternoon and then played at a lovely Steam Punk wedding in the evening.

Have a look at the gallery of some of Rich’s photos – click and scroll on…

I was sorry to miss the last ever Loudhailer Acoustic at Willerby before we move to our new venue, The Back Room in Cottingham, but Rich held the fort, aided and abetted by Jeff and Karl. There was a great turn out of players and audience (and cake).

The last chord!
Effie’s last chord!

It was cool that Dexter opened the show and Effie brought the curtain down and here she is playing the last ever chord at Loudhailer Acoustic in Willerby MC Hall. Thanks to everyone, it’s been brilliant!

Next up we’re putting on Sally Barker and Vicki Genfan at The Backroom on Saturday night – it’s sold out and we’re really looking forward to it. The following weekend Rich & I are playing at Cornucopia Festival at Burton Constable Hall and looking forward to the 4ourth4loor films being screened in the film tent there too. And then… Loudhailer Night Moves…that’s gotta be a title of something! come and join us, first Thursday of every month, so, October 2nd, Loudhailer Acoustic at The Back Room, Cottingham.
