Tim Joseph launched the superb Where? magazine 25 years ago and what a fabulous celebration it was at a sold out Adelphi last night. Massive thanks to Chris Warkup for asking me to play, and to Nick Boldock of Hull Music Archive for MCing the night. There were amazing performances from 11 bands/solo musicians who delved back into their musical pasts and stormed the stage with a plethora of awesome high energy performances. It was brilliant to see so many old friends, we loved every minute of it.
My Red Guitars buddies were scattered over a couple of different continents so I went solo and joined in with the spirit of the night and played a couple of Red Guitars requests; Good Technology and Paris, France. It was one of the hottest gigs I’ve ever played and while I was melting on the stage I could suddenly hear everyone singing along with gusto – how brilliant was that!

Huge thanks to Tim Joseph of course and to Chris Warkup for putting it all together. Tim and I worked together to release a couple of Hull music CDs a few year ago, we had a great time doing it and the night brought back loads of fab memories. Rich and I still have a stash of Where? magazines, they are a fantastic read. We were looking through them recently and spotted a 1991 review of the band that Rich played bass in back then – The Empty Cubes – which said, “The basslines are reminiscent of the Red Guitars”. How cool is that!
Brilliant Tim, thank you! Heartbreak Hotel btw, a snippet and a highlight!

Where? XXV 9th July 2016 Hull New Adelphi Club
It’s 25 years since Tim Joseph launched Where? Magazine and changed the face of Hull’s music scene. The incredible support that he gave local musicians and venues meant we had a profile, exposure and opportunities that we’d only dreamed of otherwise.
And now, a quarter of a century later, some familiar faces around the Hull music scene of the early 1990s are making their way back to the Adelphi to celebrate Where?’s legacy and say the ‘thank you’ to Tim that we mostly never got round to in the first place.
We’ve been working away behind the scenes for many months now to make this happen; some of the acts haven’t played together in over 20 years, some are travelling hundreds of miles, some just wandering down from Newland Avenue, some coming back to Hull for the first time in years – decades, even – and it will never happen again.
This is truly going to be a night to remember in Hull’s musical history.
Celebrate the unassuming hero that is Tim Joseph.
Celebrate what he did for us back then.
Celebrate Where? XXV”
