Open Bridges First Anniversary

It’s a year since Open Bridges made history when for the first, and only time, all 13 of the bridges over the River Hull raised, swung or closed simultaneously splitting the city of Hull in two at 20:17 hours on the autumn equinox, 22nd September 2017. Who believes in ghosts? The Open Bridges River Hull memory sharing morning at Hull Maritime Museum last weekend was enlightening, moving and entertaining. In between stories of life on the River Hull former River Man Neville Pinder shared his ghost stories with us…

Neville made the Hull Daily Mail in 1958 with his rafting escapades on the River Hull when he was a boy. More about that soon…

The idea for A River Full Of Stories came about when many of the 2000 visitors to the Open Bridges exhibition inside Scale Lane Bridge told us fascinating stories and memories of their lives working on and around the river.  We wanted to capture these memories and stories and share them with future generations. With the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, we will produce a film, exhibition, website and book.

It’s the first anniversary of our Open Bridges night on Saturday 22nd September, and we’d like to invite you to the first anniversary celebration.

Saturday 22nd September at Kardomah94, Alfred Gelder Street, Hull, HU1 2AN. Doors 7.30 pm, free entry, but please let us know if you are coming.

Celebrating Open Bridges, when for the first time in the city’s history all 13 of Hull’s bridges raised, swung or closed simultaneously splitting the city in two.

There will be a live quadraphonic performance of the Open Bridges music ‘Moments in Time’ by the composer John Stead to accompany the Open Bridges film, made by Humber Film Creative Community, the opening of the new exhibition, and the introduction of the next instalment of Open Bridges, ‘A River Full Of Stories’.
