A River Full Of Stories is up and running. Last night’s Open Bridges anniversary celebration and launch was a whirlwind. Thanks to everyone who came to join us, it was terrific to have a drink and a chat after the films and music – high five to the whole team and everyone involved so far. R&L

Thank you to everyone who came to join us for the Open Bridges first anniversary evening and launch of A River Full Of Stories last night. Rich & I spent the afternoon hanging the first installment of the new A River Full Of Stories exhibition with the original Open Bridges exhibition in the theatre at Kardomah94 ready for the evening’s programme. After a drink and a chat as everyone looked round the exhibition the show opened with a lively taster of the River Full Of Stories films of the first memory sharing days on the river and at Hull Maritime Museum.

Summer Solstice Musique Concrete

Dex smallThank you to everybody who came to the live quadraphonic performance of the Open Bridges music – ‘Moments in Time’ – by the composer John Stead to accompany the Open Bridges film at Beverley Art Gallery on the Summer Solstice 2018.

We were delighted to welcome Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for the East Riding of Yorkshire to the evening. The acoustics and atmosphere in the beautiful gallery were just right – and together with a glass of wine made for lovely gathering.

The Open Bridges film was made by 16 film makers from Humber Film Creative Community, filmed at every bridge over the river, and from the bow of the historic barge MV Syntan during the Open Bridges journey on the autumn equinox. Open Bridges Summer Solstice ‘Moments in Time’ Live Performance

Friends, would you like to come to the special summer solstice live performance of the Open Bridges music? It’s a quadraphonic 20 minute performance of the musique concrete soundtrack by the composer John Stead to accompany the film at Beverley Treasure House and Art Gallery, East Yorkshire, Thursday, 21 June, at 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm start. It will be over before 8pm. It’s an informal occasion, to gather and enjoy the music in the gallery space – and a chance to hear the musique concrete which accompanies the beautiful Open Bridges film, very different and atmospheric. Free entry, but it would be helpful if you’d let us know if you’d like to come.

Open Bridges

There will be a live quadraphonic performance of the Open Bridges music – ‘Moments in Time’ – by the composer John Stead to accompany the Open Bridges film at Beverley Treasure House and Art Gallery, East Riding of Yorkshire, on Thursday, 21 June, at 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm start. The event will be finished by 8 o’clock and is free of charge. It is an informal occasion, just to gather and enjoy the music in the gallery space.

BAFTA winning composer John Stead will diffuse the especially commissioned musique concrete work – recorded using natural sounds to form a montage – to accompany the film, which has been showing in Beverley Art Gallery this month. John recorded and included sounds from the River Hull’s journey from Beverley to Hull, including the sounds of the bridges moving.

‘Stunning’ Open Bridges film showcase at Beverley Art Gallery

Very pleased that the Open Bridges film with musique concrete soundtrack will be screened at Beverley Art Gallery (in the Beverley Treasure House) from tomorrow. If you call into the gallery you can see it – and a whole galleryful of art – free of charge, normal opening times, late opening til 8pm Tues and Thurs.

Press release from East Riding of Yorkshire Council issued on behalf of Open Bridges: ‘Stunning’ Open Bridges film showcase at Beverley Art Gallery

A ‘stunning and unique’ film documenting the day Hull was split in two by the Open Bridges project will be screened in the Art Gallery at Beverley’s Treasure House this month.

The 20-minute film, which is free to view and open to the public in normal gallery hours, will be on continuous loop from Thursday, May 10th until mid-June as part of a new display.

Produced for Open Bridges by Humber Film, the film is a multi-camera aural and musical documentary showing how all 13 of Hull’s bridges were raised, swung or closed simultaneously for the first time at 20:17 hours on the autumnal equinox 2017, splitting the city in two during Hull City of Culture’s Freedom Season.
